The early morning sun stabbed through the hotel room’s window curtains without consideration of the sleepy occupants within. Not that they were still asleep.

Sean and Adriana had already been up for an hour, getting little more than a four- to five-hour nap before rousing at the break of day. Both wondered if Tommy and Niki were awake in the other room.

The answer came in the form of three firm knocks at the door.

“Housekeeping,” Tommy said in the most high-pitched, feminine voice he could muster.

Sean rolled his eyes and shook his head at Adriana.

“What is he doing?” she asked.

Sean chuckled as he walked over to the door and unlocked it. “Did you ever see Tommy Boy?” he asked over his shoulder as he unclipped the latch.

He turned the doorknob and opened it.

“No,” she said. “I think I’ve heard of it, though.”

“Wow,” Sean said in amazement as Tommy and Niki appeared in the hall just outside the doorway. “I know what our in-flight movie is going to be on the way to Rome.”

“What’s that?” Tommy asked, stepping past his friend to enter the room.

Niki offered a quick “Good morning, Sean.”

“Morning, Niki.” Then he answered Tommy’s question. “She hasn’t seen Tommy Boy.”

“What? Seriously?”

Adriana looked unimpressed. “You do realize I’m not from your country. And while we get most of the American movies over in Spain, there are some we don’t see. Part B: I don’t make time to watch many movies anyway.”

“She’s right about that,” Sean confirmed. “I think in all the years we’ve been together, we may have watched a grand total of maybe a few dozen films. Lot of shows.”

“A lot of sports,” she semi-corrected with a dry tone.

“Hey, I don’t hear you complaining when we watch Real Madrid play.”

“Because they’re the best.” There was no arguing with a woman who was right. Especially one with the unquestionable confidence in her eyes that Adriana carried.

“Fair.”

“Okay, but he’s right,” Tommy said. “We definitely have to watch that on the plane ride.”

“Or,” Adriana suggested, “we do our jobs and actually try to figure out what is going on with these Russians, and why they are hunting for the trident.”

“Okay, okay,” Tommy relented. “You’re right. But when we get home, the four of us are going to get together and watch that movie.”

“Niki is coming to the States?” Sean asked with a mischievous glint in his eyes.

The young Greek looked confused and shook his head. “No. I’m not.”

“I was talking about June and the three of us,” Tommy explained.

“I know, Schultzie,” Sean said and hefted his rucksack over his right shoulder. “Have you heard from the pilot?”

“Yeah. Jim said the plane is fueled up and ready to go. He and Erik the co-pilot are finishing their routine check.”

“Does that guy ever sleep?”

“Probably more than we do. He just sits around and waits to fly. Plenty of time to rest while doing that.”

“I guess so.”

After leaving the hotel, the group stopped in a breakfast place Niki recommended a few blocks away. They enjoyed baklava and coffee, as well as an assortment of cheeses, fresh tomatoes, cucumber, eggs, and dates.
